Quality, Diversity, eXperimentation

The number one question people have is "What does Q D X stand for?". Now you know.

Radio QDX launched in 2021 as an AOR (Album Oriented Rock) station. The idea was to play homage to Raleigh's WQDR, probably the best album rocker of its' era. WQDR switched to Country music in 1984, breaking the hearts of thousands of dedicated listeners across Carolina. Over time, the AOR format at many stations morphed into what is now known as "Classic Rock".

Unfortunately, the AOR format on Radio QDX never really connected with listeners. We decided that the past was best left in the past, and that is was time to try something different.

After surveying the current streaming radio landscape, we found that even though the audience for old Rock 'n Roll was dwindling (perhaps by death), the internet held a disproportionately large number of Rock stations. The other formats, such as Country, R&B, Classic Hits, Rap, etc. were already well-represented. Instead of treading the same old ground, we opted to make our own path. We concocted a playlist blending Indie, Alternative, Americana, Alt-Country and Blues. We figured It might be a train wreck, or might be something really special. On August 1, 2023, the all-new Radio QDX was born.

We hope you enjoy this unique listening experience. Radio QDX strives to play only quality, well-crafted music; no bro-Country, no auto-tuned Pop, no Rap, no 120 Decibel Death Metal. QDX music has a soulful, bluesy groove, but it still rocks. Some of it will make you happy, while some of it might make you hurt just a little. This is music that lives and breathes. We are not afraid to play unknown artists or songs that didn't chart. As we say "You've heard the hits, now hear everything else".
